Lab: MOHODescription
Blood Culture Test is a laboratory test that is conducted to determine the presence of bacteria or fungi in the blood. This test is primarily used to diagnose bacterial or fungal infections that may be present in the bloodstream. The test helps in identifying the type of bacteria or fungi present in the bloodstream and their susceptibility to various antibiotics.
A blood culture test is performed by collecting a sample of blood from a vein in the arm. The blood is then incubated in a special container for a certain period of time to allow the growth of bacteria or fungi. The container is then observed for signs of bacterial or fungal growth. Once the bacteria or fungi have grown, they can be identified through a microscope or other laboratory techniques.
The Blood Culture Test is an important test that can help diagnose a variety of infections, including sepsis, endocarditis, and meningitis. It can also help identify the type of bacteria or fungi present in the bloodstream and their susceptibility to various antibiotics.
