10 Tips to choose the right sunglasses

There are two main purposes of wearing sunglasses: primarily, it is a protection against the UV rays of the sun. On the other hand, it is also an aesthetic accessory you can wear as a part of your fashion statement. Here are 10 tips to make sure you get the right sunglasses for your eyes which will also suit your face and spike your fashion appeal!

TIP 1:
Make sure you buy the sunglasses which provide 99% protection from the ultraviolet (UV) rays. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can harm your eyes and lead to many diseases like cataract and others. Today, many companies manufacture sunglasses that provide 100% protection from the UV exposure. This could also be mentioned as the UV absorption being up to 400 nm.

TIP 2:
Ensure that you buy a pair of sunglasses with high-quality lens. You might think that such glasses will be priced high but you will be surprised to find economically priced sunglasses with the best of the lens. To verify if the lens are good, simply hold up the glass, and look at a rectangular object. While doing this, cover one eye. Shift the position of the sunglasses up and down and right and left.  If the lines on your sunglasses appear straight, then your glasses are fine. If they seem squirmy, then drop them and choose another pair of sunglasses.

TIP 3:
Choose plastic lenses over the glass ones. Nowadays, sunglasses come with polycarbonate plastics which are used in many sports sunglasses. These are highly impact-resistant. However, they do tend to scratch easily. So, if you are going for these sunglasses, select one with scratch-resistant coating. Remember that polarized lens and non-polarized ones have equal power of staving off glare.

TIP 4:

Know that the color or the darkness of the lens is not related to its capacity to protect your eyes from the UV rays. Thus, make sure you check the level of UV protection on the glasses you choose. It has been studied that dark gray is the best color for sunglasses, as they seem to have the least amount of color distortion.

TIP 5:
If you are choosing sunglasses for your children, then get ones with spring hinges. These will make sure that they do not give in to the rigorous activities of childhood. You could also choose glasses with earpieces and straps. Make sure that you receive a prescription from the optician in case your child has an eyewear prescription.

TIP 6:
While choosing the sunglasses, the most important aspect would be to ensure that they fit the bridge of your nose perfectly. If they do not, you would probably not wear them for long since they would either hurt your nose or fall off frequently.

TIP 7:
What is your face shape? Depending on the shape of your face, you can choose the glasses. For people with diamond-shaped faces, rimless frames as well as oval ones work well. Those who have square-shaped face should go for oval or cat-eyed frames. Make sure the frames are thin. If you have a triangular face, then flaunt a colorful frame or one with straight lines on the top. Light colors work well with face shapes which resemble an inverted triangle. Oblong faces are compatible with wide frames. Rectangular and thick frames look good on round faces. Lastly, for oval faces, the best choice would be square frames.

TIP 8:
The color of your frames should harmonize with the color of your skin. You could either have cool or warm skin tones. Those with cool skin tone have a pink or blue shade while those with warm skin tone have a yellow shade. For the former type, frames which are of peach, bright red, khaki, gold, or copper color, look best. If you have a latter type skin tone, then try out frames in colors- rosy brown, blue, or black.

TIP 9:
For those who are fashion-conscious, remember that you must see if the latest trends suit your face. Choose sunglasses which are opposite to your facial shape. For instance, if you have a square face, go for rounder glasses. However, if you want to emphasize on the shape of your face, you could try out glasses that have the same shape. If you have a small face, you could wear a large sunglass to bring attention to them.

TIP 10:
To top off your sunglasses, don a fancy hat. This will shade your face and also bring focus on your sunglasses. It is important to wear a hat in case you visit a beach or are on a hiking trip.

Did you know that over 49% of the people do not wear glasses with 100% UV protection? Wearing glasses which do not completely protect your eyes would not prevent eye diseases and sometimes, even stimulate them. So, make sure you buy sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
