Loneliness is a complex, unpleasant emotional response to isolation, an emotion that one can feel even if they are with a room full of people. Loneliness includes anxiety about lack of connectivity with surroundings or community.

Causes: 
The causes of loneliness are varied, including –

  1. Social
  2. Mental
  3. Emotional Factors

Reasons to experience loneliness feelings: 

  1. Lack of goals
  2. Financial dependency
  3. Feeling of remorse of a decision taken
  4. The death of life partner
  5. Giving up on the challenges that life throws at someone from time to time

Loneliness falls into these categories:

  1. Circumstantial: e.g. Loss of a relationship, move to a new city
  2. Developmental: e.g. A need for intimacy balanced by a need for individualism
  3. Internal: Often including feelings of low self-esteem and vulnerability

In loneliness, one can feel that besides him or her, everyone else has friends and that one is socially inadequate or socially unskilled. A lonely person may become convinced there is something wrong with them, and that no one understands their situation. Such a person will lose confidence and will become reluctant to attempt to change or too scared to try new things for fear of further social rejection. In extreme cases, a person may feel a sense of emptiness, which may become a state of clinical depression.

Loneliness can be very blissful, if one enjoys every moment of life: 

  1. Start planning things in life, this will make you think, and will keep you busy.
  2. List down the work to be completed and essential for every month, like bill payments and other monthly expenses.
  3. A trip to the supermarket will be interesting, if you make a checklist and write down the things that are required or need to be refilled.
  4. Cleaning your house is the best way to overcome loneliness. Fix a day in a week for house cleanliness.
  5. A walk to a bookstore is another option. Check out the latest books and music.
  6. Spend a day of the week in gardening.
  7. Enrol in gym, yoga classes and other creative classes, and learn new things.

Fulfil your dreams and ambitions, through various options. Everyone should seek out their purpose in life and keep finding the means to reach it.
