Origin

Cricoid cartilage.

Insertion

Arytenoid cartilage.

Blood supply

Superior and inferior laryngeal arteries.

Nerve supply

Recurrent laryngeal nerve.

Action

It helps to open the vocal cords.

Disease/Injury

An increase in age can shrink the size of this muscle; however, voice building exercise can help regain it.

Muscle Exercise

Reading loudly helps to strengthen this muscle.
