It is an intrinsic muscle of larynx attached to the inner surface of the thyroid cartilage.

Origin

Angle of the thyroid cartilage and the cricothyroid ligament.

Insertion

Into the arytenoid cartilage.

Blood supply

Superior and inferior laryngeal arteries.

Nerve supply

Recurrent laryngeal nerve.

Action

It helps to release the epiglottis after swallowing.
