Longus capitis is a neck muscle located on the cervical vertebrae.

Origin

C3-C6 vertebrae.

Insertion

Occipital bone.

Blood supply

Ascending cervical artery, ascending pharyngeal artery.

Nerve supply

Cervical nerves.

Action

It helps to bend the head and neck.

Disease/Injury

This muscle is prone to whiplash injury or muscular pain.

Muscle Exercise

Lie on the floor, lift your head up to 4 inches, hold, relax, and repeat.

Interesting facts

The posture of the neck is maintained by this muscle.
