INFERIOR GEMELLUS

Inferior gemellus is the muscle of hip in the buttocks region.

Origin

Ischial tuberosity.

Insertion

Tendon of obturator internus.

Blood supply

Inferior gluteal artery.

Nerve supply

L4, L5, S1 nerves.

Action

It helps to rotate the thigh outwards.

Muscle exercise

Supine leg circle exercise can help you to strengthen your inferior gemellus muscle. Lie on your back with arms straight besides your body and palms facing down. Move each leg outwards in circle; do it 8 times with each leg, then repeat the same making inward circles.

Interesting facts

To balance the tension of muscles in ballet or similar form of dancing and to maintain hip joint stability, you need to strengthen this muscle.
