Calcaneus
Insertion
Middle phalanges of 2nd, 3rd and 4th toes.
Blood supply
Dorsalis pedis artery.
Nerve supply
Deep fibular nerve.
Action
It helps to extend 2nd to 4th toe of leg.
Disease/Injury
Overuse of foot may cause pain in the foot on the upper surface, pain while moving and foot pain on running.
Muscle Exercise
You can do stretching exercises to strengthen this muscle by using foot trainer. Sit with back support and put rubber pads below the toes. Gradually move the foot trainer up and then move the foot towards the body.
Interesting fact
This muscle may get injured if the shoes are badly fitting or if the shoe lace is tightly tied, causing pressure on the upper foot, and pain.
