FIBULARIS BREVIS

Fibularis brevis is a muscle of the lower leg that lies underneath the fibularis longus muscle. It is shorter and smaller than the fibularis longus. It is also known as the peroneus brevis.

Origin

Fibula

Insertion

5th metatarsal bone.

Blood supply

Fibular artery.

Nerve supply

Superficial fibular nerve.

Action

It helps to move the foot downwards and move the foot outwards at the ankle.

Disease/Injury

Peroneal tendinopathy may be cause due to overuse or injury to the fibularis brevis.

Muscle Exercise

Exercising the ankle joint helps to strengthen this muscle. You must move the ankle inwards and outwards.

Interesting facts

The muscle is necessary for walking on uneven surfaces.
