ARTICULARIS GENUS (subcrureus)

Articularis genus is the muscle located in the anterior and lower portion of the thigh.

Origin

Femur

Insertion

Suprapatellar bursa at the knee joint.

Blood supply

Femoral artery.

Nerve supply

Femoral nerve.

Action

It helps to extend the knee.

Disease/Injury

The main cause for chronic knee pain is injury to articularis genu muscle; the injury can be due to blow to the inner side of knee.

Muscle Exercise

You can practice articularis stretch to strengthen this muscle. Stand beside the wall and bend one knee backwards and hold it with one hand, take support of wall with the other hand. Hold the position for 10 seconds and relax for 2 seconds. Then repeat the same with the other leg. Do it 5 times per day.

Interesting fact

It is the smallest muscle of thigh.
