PECTINEUS

Pectineus is a quadrilateral shaped thigh muscle.

Origin

Pubic bone – pectineal line.

Insertion

Femur – pectineal line.

Blood supply

Obturator artery.

Nerve supply

Femoral nerve, obturator nerve.

Action

It helps to rotate the thigh towards the body and bend the hip.

Disease/Injury

Overuse of muscles can cause inflammation in groin region which extends the pain to the whole leg. It also causes pain while pulling the leg, raising the thigh, and difficulty and pain in walking or running.

Muscle Exercise

You can practice standing hip flexion exercise and lateral lunges to strengthen the pectineus muscle.

Interesting fact

You use the pectineus muscle, e.g., to kick a football.
