SARTORIUS

Sartorius muscle extends throughout the length of the thigh. It is extremely long and thin.

Origin

Iliac bone.

Insertion

Tibia

Blood supply

Femoral artery.

Nerve supply

Femoral nerve.

Action

It helps to move the thigh in front, backwards, and side to side.

Disease/Injury

Excessive stretch on the sartorius muscle can cause it to tear. An injury to sartorius can make it very difficult to walk or run.

Muscle Exercise

Practice hip and knee flexion exercises to strengthen the sartorius muscle.

Interesting fact

Sartor means tailor, so it is also known as ‘tailor’s muscle.’ It is the longest muscle in the human body.
