EXTENSOR POLLICIS LONGUS

The extensor pollicis longus is a forearm muscle. It ends at the middle of the thumb.

Origin

Ulna

Insertion

Inserts into the distal phalanx of the thumb.

Blood supply

Posterior interosseous artery.

Nerve supply

Posterior interosseous nerve.

Action

The muscle helps to extend the wrist as well as the thumb during activities like gripping and grasping.

Disease/Injury

The extensor pollicis longus is prone to developing tendinitis as a result of overuse.

Muscle Exercise

By performing the barbell reverse wrist curls with your forearms resting on a bench, you can increase the strength of your extensor pollicis longus.
