Esophoria is an ophthalmic condition in which the eyes tend to deviate inwards.

Causes and risk factors

Esophoria may be caused by convergence excess, divergence insufficiency, or the presence of other refractive disorders.

Clinical presentation

Due to the inward deviation of the eyes, the patient tends to strain his eyes and develops headaches. He may face difficulties while reading or working at a computer due to blurring of vision. Diplopia, i.e., double vision may be present.

Investigations

Ophthalmic examination is carried out to diagnose esophoria.

Treatment

Esophoria may be treated with the correction of the underlying refractive disorders. Vision therapy may help.
