Lutz-Miescher Disease

Lutz-Miescher Disease

Lutz-Miescher disease is a rare skin disorder characterized by development of raised red bumps on skin which have a typical linear, circular, or snake-like pattern of appearance. Incidence of this rare disorder is high in males.

Causes and risk factors

The factors responsible for development of this rare disorder is still a mystery. An idiopathic factor, or as a response to certain medications like penicillin, has been found to predispose this condition. Lutz-Miescher can also be associated with certain other rare disorders like Marfan syndrome, Down’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, etc.

Clinical presentation:

Small, raised red colored eruptions or bumps are seen, which have a typical linear, circular, or snake-like pattern. These eruptions are typically seen on the back of the neck. Involvement of the face, arms, and legs are also seen. Involvement of the trunk can also be seen, but in a lesser degree.

Treatment:

No definitive therapy is still available for treating this rare disorder. However, this disease does not pose any serious health issues. Usually the disease resolves on its own over a span of few years. If certain medication is the cause of the disease, then the medicine needs to be stopped.

Other Modes of treatment:

Certain other modes of treatment can also be helpful in coping up with the disease. Taking into consideration the symptoms in a holistic way, homoeopathy can offer a good aid for the relief of the symptoms. The Ayurvedic system of medicine which uses herbs and synthetic derivates can also be beneficial in combating the complaints.
