The most common treatment is through an acid blocking medicine also known as proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and antibiotics.     There are certain factors that may increase the risk of a peptic ulcer for some people. A common factor is age, with people over 50 years of age being more susceptible to ulcers. Individuals that smoke, drink alcohol and caffeine excessively, or are on certain medication like painkillers and other NSAIDs are also more susceptible to ulcers.

    A healthy lifestyle is your best bet at preventing an ulcer. Don’t overdo alcohol or cigarettes as they are terrible for your stomach lining. When taking any medication, be sure it always under a doctor’s supervision as some medicines may damage tissue in the lining. Also, avoid heavy and spicy meals that may increase acid production in the stomach.

    Avoid spicy food or one with high levels of fat. Opt for fresh fruits and vegetables along with wholegrain food items. These digest slowly in the body and thus metabolise at an even rate without excess acid production.
