Function
The primary function is protection of the brain. Structurally, it consists of grooves (indentations) that provide space for major blood vessels which supply oxygen and nourishment to the brain. It protects the nerves present in the region.
Disease/Injury/Fracture
The parietal bone is fractured commonly due to a high-velocity trauma to the skull. Fracture of this bone can cause brain injury. It can be fatal and lead to loss of consciousness and even death.

The parietal bone is actually made up of multiple small bones which fuse together with age and form a single bone.
