Are you pregnant this new year?

Pregnancy is a period of great joy, so is New Year. While it is the time for double celebration, it is essential to take care. Here are some tips for pregnant women to party and celebrate New Year safely.

  • Drink water

Moms-to-be have to pay special attention while eating at a party. Drink lot of fluids. Always keep yourself adequately hydrated. Avoid drinking too much caffeinated drinks.

  • Eat Well

Do not fast or eat less to compensate for an evening party. Make sure you eat every 2 -3 hours; this is important for nourishment of baby. If you have severe nausea even at the sight of food, try drinking ginger tea.

  • Eat right

Fat food and pregnancy do not go well. Do not eat too much salty food. This causes water retention. Add carrot sticks, green beans, bananas, apples, nuts, dried fruit, and organic cheese to your party menu or carry them with you to munch upon if you are invited for a party at other place.

  • Avoid

    1. Avoid uncooked food, unpasteurized milk, cheese etc or uncooked eggs used in cakes or ice-creams sometimes. 2. Avoid overeating at the party.

  • Is it safe to drink?

Drinking alcohol in moderate amounts does not affect the baby’s brain functions according to new research. Heavy drinking can cause damage to nervous system of baby leading to learning disabilities and improper brain development. It can cause Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in babies and might lead to physical, mental, and behavioural problems in later life. Sticking to zero-alcohol rule is definitely great, but you can surely binge on New Year. Take care that it should not exceed two large glasses of wine. You can even choose to enjoy a glass of champagne.

  • Medicines

Do not forget to take your regular pregnancy tablets, calcium, folic acid, and iron supplements. Make sure you have some remedies for dyspepsia, heartburn, indigestion in case you need them.

  • Right clothes

Prioritize comfort over fashion while choosing clothes. Go on a shopping spree! You want to look your best, of course, but no one will expect you to turn up looking the belle of the ball. Ditch those tight-fitting clothes. Avoid the sparkly heels and opt for low wedges or cute ballet pumps instead. Carry layers (shawls, jackets, scarves) too, so that you can adjust as necessary at the venue.

  • Decorations

Stay away from balloons, glitters, and paper plates. They are not eco-friendly. Consider decorating your home or party venue with lots of flowers, pot plants, use cutlery and crockery. Artificial decorations may contain lead which can increase chances of birth defects in baby.

  • Take rest

Avoid overexertion. Do not go for a long time in smoky and clumsy atmospheres. Avoid passive smoking and loud music. Take a good rest and restore your energy.

  • Most important, enjoy yourself!

Pregnancy is a short-time affair relatively, so enjoy going to events and occasions. Being pregnant, you will get those special looks. People will look at you and want to talk about the good news. Talk to people and revel all the attention you get. “Moms-to-be” take care of these small things and have a wonderful time at New Year!
