CUBOID

CUBOID

The cuboid is one of the bones on the outer side of the foot. The name is derived from its cubic shape.

Function

The main function of the bone is to provide stability to the foot and to join the foot and the ankle. It helps to keep the outside of the foot stable and allows us to walk with confidence.

Disease/ Injury/ Fracture

The subluxation of the bone is a condition where the bone is pushed downwards and out of place. It causes dull aching pain along the outer side of the foot. This is called as cuboid syndrome.

The bone can also break due to heavy physical activity, severe trauma to the foot, or sometimes even dancing.

Interesting fact

The cuboid bone along with calcaneus and other bones forms the outer arch of the foot.
