MALLEUS

The malleus is one of the small bones located in the middle ear. The structure of the bone looks like the hammer, thus the bone is commonly referred to as the hammer of the ear.

Function

Function of the bone is to send sound vibrations to Incus (another adjacent bone of the ear) and to eardrum.

Diseases/ Injury/ Fracture

Injury to the Malleus is not very common. Rarely fracture can result due to deep trauma due to an automobile accident.
