NASAL BONE

Two square-shaped bones situated side by side in the upper part of the nose form the nasal bone. When we say bridge of the nose, it is this nasal bone. Nasal bones have variable sizes and shapes in different individuals.

Function

This is the bone that primarily decides the shape of the nose of an individual.

Disease/ Injury/ Fracture

Blow to the face can cause fracture to the nasal bone. An injury to the skull, due to blow on nose, warrants immediate attention.  Injury to nose can lead to permanent deformity of nasal bridge.

Interesting Fact(s)

The bone is flexible in young children and hardens with age. It is the most commonly fractured bone of the face as it takes or absorbs most of the blows to the face.
