Palatine bone imparts shape to the oral cavity, nasal cavity, and eye sockets. It forms the roof of the mouth and the base of the eye socket. It separates the oral cavity from the rest of the skull and protects the organs like the tongue in this area.

Conditions that can affect palatine bone are infection, trauma, facial fractures, cancers, and birth defects like cleft palate.
Interesting fact(s)
Palatine tonsils present one on each side of the throat. Palatine bone houses the tonsils. The palatine tonsils are part of the body’s defense mechanism.
