Function
It provides structure and support to the forearm along with the other bone ulna and helps movement of the forearm. It rotates over the ulna while rotating the forearm. For e.g. when you look at your palm and flip it over to see the back of your hand.
Disease/ Injury/ Fracture
The radius commonly fractures about 2 cm above its lower end called as Colle’s fracture. The fracture is caused by fall on an outstretched hand. A sudden powerful jerk on the hand of the child may dislodge the head of the radius.
Radius is designed to take a hit, i.e. it is designed to snap and absorb most of the impact in order to prevent damage to other important parts.
Interesting fact(s)
Radius bone acts like a radius of circle and rotates around the other bone of forearm called ulna which acts as the center and does not move.
Remember, doctor checks your pulse rate! It is over this bone radius, he places his 3 fingers to feel the pulse and thus it is called as radial pulse.
