VOMER

VOMER

It is a rigid, triangular unpaired wedge-shaped bone of the human skull that runs vertically along the midline of the nose. It forms the nasal septum and divides the nose into the left and right halves.

Functions

It forms the nasal cavity (nose). Along with other bones, vomer defines the features of the face.

Disease/Injury/Fracture

Fracture of vomer is rare and difficult to diagnose. It might get fractured with other facial bones due to severe trauma.

Interesting fact(s)

Tapping the tip of tongue against the roof of mouth and pressing on forehead between the eyebrows alternately causes slight movement of the vomer bone. This helps to relieve sinus congestion.
