Rising absenteeism in obese people has become the bane of most recruiters everywhere in the world. Though this could come under the purview of obesity discrimination, it goes without saying that obesity affects a person's performance at work and consequently an obese person’s career can be seriously hampered by his weight.

Jason was unusually chirpy as he entered the foyer of the multi-national company where he was to be interviewed for the important post of Production Engineer. He had no reason not to be happy, after all he was through with 2 telephonic rounds and today was a mere formality.

He was soon ushered in at the scheduled time and what happened thereafter was downright nightmarish.Certainly not the reception he had in mind. In about 30 minutes flat, he was sitting in the park feeding the swans and all 5ft 9 and 203 Lbs of him was wondering as to where he could have possibly gone wrong earlier.

There are plenty of Jasons out there who are well qualified, bright and competent but when it comes to landing jobs for key positions fail to do so, all because of a condition called ‘Obesity’ or being seriously overweight. All because being overweight is seen as a sign of being an unhealthy person who is most likely to call in sick than those in the normal weight category.

Obesity makes a person dull and lethargic.

Obesity puts one at the risk of many diseases. Long leaves and day off from work are pretty common for obese people. Obesity at workplace posts high economic loss to the company. Company has to pay for hospitalization expenses and compensation too.

Obese people are less capable of working in shifts.

Alert mind is required at work and to make good career. Mental lethargy is common in obese people.

Before it is too late, obesity should be worked upon seriously and sincerely. Calculate your BMI to know how many kilos you need to lose.

Start taking measures to get back to your normal size and shape if you want to bloom in your career. Exercise, diet, regular checkups and regular sleeping pattern along with some lifestyle changes is all you need to do.
