Causes and risk factors
The exact cause of cellulite is not known. Several factors in combination cause cellulite formation. Although cellulite is more commonly seen in obese people thin females can also be affected. Overweight, poor diet, lack of physical activity, hormonal changes are certain causes which can trigger cellulite formation.
Clinical presentation:
Cellulite is more commonly seen in areas on thighs and buttocks. It is less noticed in the overlying skin has an orange peeled like texture. On pinching the skin dimple appears. The effected skin is rough to touch.
Investigations:
Diagnosis is done of the basis of the symptoms narrated by the patient and the examination carried out by the doctor. No specific test needs to be done for cellulite.
Treatment:
No specific treatment is available for cellulite. Use of cellulite creams which dissolves fat and smoothens the skin are recommended. Liposuction- a surgical intervention to remove the fat deposits can also be done. Regular exercises and adequate diet needs to be implemented.
