Causes and risk factors
Craniotabes can be normally seen in infants, mostly in premature infants. This condition is harmless in newborns unless it is associated with problems like rickets and brittle bones.
Clinical presentation
Bones feel soft and flexible along the suture line. There are soft areas often along the suture line which pop in and out. This is considered as a normal presentation in premature babies.
Investigation
Medical history by the patient and clinical examination by the doctor helps in diagnosis. Mostly this condition is demonstrated by pressing the bone and soft areas along the suture line, which pop in and out. No diagnostic tests are carried out unless rickets or brittle bones are suspected.
Treatment
No treatment is required for newborn infants with craniotabes. Treatment is required if craniotabes is associated with other problems.
Other Modes of treatment
The other modes of treatment can also be effective in treating craniotabes. Homoeopathy is a science which deals with individualization and considers a person in a holistic way. This science can be helpful in combating the symptoms. Similarly the Ayurvedic system of medicine which uses herbal medicines and synthetic derivates are also found to be effective in treating craniotabes.
