Causes and risk factors
The tumors are more common in middle aged women. The exact cause is still not known.
Clinical presentation
The tumors are usually present as a smooth painless lump, but some may be painful. The size is fairly large. It appears as malignant sarcoma and shows leaf-like appearance when sectioned, hence the name. The tumor is freely movable. The breast may become red or warm to the touch. These tumors grow very quickly.
Investigation
Medical history by the patient and clinical examination by the doctor helps in diagnosis. Mammography, USG, or MRI of the breast is done. Biopsy of the breast is required.
Treatment
In case of benign tumor, the entire tumor along with a margin of healthy breast tissue is excised surgically. Malignant tumor requires removal of the lump or the entire breast along with radiation or chemotherapy.
