Exophoria

Exophoria is an ophthalmic condition in which the eyes tend to deviate outwards.

Causes and risk factors

Exophoria may be caused by convergence insufficiency, divergence excess, or the presence of other refractive disorders.

Clinical presentation

Due to the outward deviation of the eyes, the patient tends to strain his eyes and develops headaches. He/she may face difficulties while reading or working at a computer due to blurring of vision. Diplopia may be present.

Investigations

Eye examination is performed in order to diagnose exophoria.

Treatment

Exophoria may be treated with surgical intervention. Practicing eye exercises regularly may help.
