Causes and risk factors
Premature ejaculation can result from mental causes like anxiety, depression, guilt or relationship issues. Physical causes of PE include hormonal imbalance, thyroid disorders, erectile dysfunction, injury to the reproductive organs and abnormal level of neurotransmitters.
Clinical presentation
The primary symptom of premature ejaculation is ejaculating soon during the act of sexual intercourse. This can cause stress, frustration and lack of desire or confidence to have intercourse.
Diagnosis & Investigations
Diagnosis will be based upon detailed medical history, sexual life history, examination by the urologist.
Along with premature ejaculation, if you also face problem with erection your doctor will recommend certain blood tests to know the underlying cause.
Treatment
A few simple tips and exercises can help increase the ejaculation time.
Masturbate an hour or two before the actual sexual act so that you can last longer.
Practice Kegel’s exercises – Identify muscles which you use to control urination. Contract and relax those muscles while not urinating. Practice this multiple times a day.
Start and stop method: the moment you feel you are about to ejaculate, stop the act and focus on something non- arousing. Once you gain control restart the act again.
Counselling from a mental health expert is recommended, if anxiety and depression is the cause.
The use of medications is limited to topical anaesthetic creams and anti-depressant drugs, if depression is the underlying cause.
With experience and pelvic exercises, most men are able to reduce or resolve the problem of premature ejaculation.
