Causes and risk factors
Exact cause of spermatocoele is unknown. It is cause due to blockage of efferent ducts and epididymis. Trauma or inflammation can also lead to spermatocoele. It is mostly caused in males between the age 40 and 60.
Clinical presentation
Spermatocoele is usually asymptomatic. There may be heaviness and discomfort in the scrotum. Small cysts don not cause any pain. Whereas if the cyst is of considerable size, it may cause pain while walking, sitting, during intercourse. Swelling and tenderness of the testes may be experienced by some patients.
Investigation
Medical history by the patient and Clinical examination by the doctor helps in diagnosis. It is usually diagnosed by a man’s self examination. Other investigative procedures include transillumination, USG of scrotum.
Treatment
No treatment is needed if the patient is asymptomatic. Patient is advised rest, scrotal elevation, cold packs. In case of pain, analgesics and NSAIDs may help. Antibiotics can be prescribed if there is underlying Epididymitis. Spermatocoelectomy is done to remove the spermatocoele. Another procedure called sclerotherapy may be advised.
Other Modes of treatment

Similarly the ayurvedic system of medicine which uses herbal medicines and synthetic derivates are also found to be effective in treating spermatocoele.
