Menstrual Cramps

Menstrual cramps

For some women, menstrual cramps are debilitating, while others experience only mild discomfort during their period. Pain at the time of menses occurs in all but it is most common in teenager girls who have just begun with their menstrual cycles, and with time the severity subsides gradually. Sometimes cramps are also caused by conditions like endometriosis, fibroid tumors, pelvic adhesions, and ovarian cysts or due to an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control.

What will help to relieve the cramps?

  1. Regular physical activity like walking, running, jogging at least for an hour helps to reduce cramps in some women.
  2. Supplementing your diet with zinc and calcium has been found to reduce cramps, bloating, and related PMS symptoms.
  3. Hot fomentation with hot water bag or heating pad helps to reduce the cramps.
  4. A warm bath or aromatherapy might help.
  5. Take some deep breaths, listen to music. Relaxing and letting people around you know that you are not feeling fine will help; reduce any and every stress of your everyday life that may contribute to menstrual cramps.
