The link between mind and body has been proven scientifically. What goes on in your mind, reflects on your body.

The lifestyle, we all lead today, leads to a lot of stress. Work pressure, tensions at home, peer pressure all build up the stress levels. These emotions have a strong effect on the body. They affect all parts of your body including your skin.

When you are stressed the body produces harmful substances that make the body extremely sensitive and reactive. Too much of stress compromises with the immune functions causing your skin to look less radiant undernourished and dull.

Stressed out people tend to get repeated bouts of pimples. This is because when you are stressed out, the body releases cortisol, a steroid hormone that causes the sebaceous glands to work overtime and release more sebum causing the skin to break out more.

Stress is the prime exacerbating factor for chronic skin diseases like psoriasis, rosacea and eczema. Stress causes the skin problems that are under control to flare up and more often than not with much more severe intensity.

Too much stress causes the skin to loosen up. The loose skin makes for an easy entry for bacteria and other pathogens. The bacterial entry leads to internal inflammation that causes accelerated ageing, development of wrinkles and ageing. In other words, stress can make you look older!

Long standing stress can also lead to the development of skin cancers. Chronic stress can lead to so much of damage; it is essential to beat stress.

Here are some tips to beat the stress. It will not only keep your skin fresh and healthy, but also have a positive effect on your entire system.

  1. Take time out to relax. Go for a walk, read a book, play with your kids.
  2. Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night.
  3. Keep yourself well hydrated.
  4. Keep up with your skin care routine religiously.
  5. Always remember to apply some sun block before you get out into the sun.
  6. Exercise regularly, even if it is just a walk.
