ADDUCTOR LONGUS

Adductor longus is one of the adductor muscles of hip. It is situated in the inner part of thigh.

Origin

Pubis – inferior ramus, body of the pubis.

Insertion

Femur – lesser trochanter, linea aspera.

Blood supply

Deep femoral artery.

Nerve supply

Obturator nerve.

Action

Main function of adductor longus is to pull the thigh towards the body. It also helps to rotate the thigh externally.

Disease/Injury

Proper warm-up before exercise is necessary to avoid strain in the groin region.

Muscle Exercise

For beginners, to strengthen the adductor longus muscle, use of the inner thigh machine is the best. You can also practice leg lifts and free weight, wide-stance squat.
