ANCONEUS

The anconeus muscle lies at the elbow joint. It is triangular in shape.

Origin

Humerus – lateral epicondyle.

Insertion

Ulna.

Blood supply

Profunda brachii, recurrent interosseous artery.

Nerve supply

Radial nerve.

Action

The anconeus muscle helps to stabilize the elbow joint. It also helps to extend the arm.

Disease/Injury

Tennis elbow is a form of tendinitis that affects the anconeus along with other muscles at the elbow joint.

Muscle Exercise

Bench press, shoulder press and triceps extension exercises help to strengthen the anconeus muscle.
