DEEP TRANSVERSE PERINEI

Deep transverse perinei muscle is a perineal muscle. It forms part of the pelvic floor.

Origin

Ischium – inferior rami.

Insertion

The deep transverse perineal muscles on either side integrate with each other.

Blood supply

Internal pudendal artery.

Nerve supply

Pudendal nerve.

Action

It helps to support the pelvic floor and helps to expel the semen. It also helps to excrete the last drop of urine in both males and females.

Disease/Injury

Chances of urinary incontinence may be caused if this muscle gets injured, in both males and females.

Muscle Exercise

Lunges with a medicinal ball help to strengthen the deep transverse perinei muscle.
