EXTENSOR CARPI ULNARIS

Extensor carpi ulnaris is located on the back of the forearm on the little finger side.

Origin

Ulna – lateral epicondyle

Insertion

5th metacarpal bone

Blood supply

Ulnar artery

Nerve supply

Posterior interosseous nerve

Action

It bends the wrist backwards and sideways toward the thumb side.

Disease/Injury     

Extensor carpi ulnaris is one of the muscles affected by lateral epicondylitis, commonly referred to as ‘tennis elbow’.

Muscle Exercise    

Wrist extensions make your forearm and wrist muscles strong and healthy. Stand upright and hold a barbell in front of your thighs with your palms facing your body. Repeatedly extend your hands forward to lift the bar and lower it back down.
