EXTENSOR HALLUCIS BREVIS

Extensor hallucis brevis is the muscle located on the top of foot.

Origin

Calcaneus bone.

Insertion

Proximal phalanx of the great toe.

Blood supply

Dorsalis pedis artery, peroneal artery, lateral tarsal arteries, anterior lateral malleolar artery.

Nerve supply

Deep peroneal nerve.

Action

It helps to extend the big toe.

Disease/Injury

These muscles may get injured due to sprain or tendon tear. It mostly occurs during running or slipping on ice.

Muscle Exercise

You can practice toe raises exercise to strengthen this muscle. Simply raise the toe up and down. You can also use resistance band to do this.
