EXTENSOR POLLICIS BREVIS

The extensor pollicis brevis is a muscle of the forearm which runs parallel to the extensor pollicis longus.

Origin

Radius

Insertion

Proximal phalanx of the thumb.

Blood supply

Posterior interosseous artery.

Nerve supply

Posterior interosseous nerve.

Action

The muscle helps to extend the wrist as well as the thumb during activities like gripping and grasping.

Disease/Injury

Tendinitis of the extensor pollicis brevis because of its overuse is a relatively common and painful condition.

Muscle Exercise

By performing the barbell reverse wrist curls with your forearms resting on a bench you can increase the strength of your extensor pollicis brevis.
