FIBULARIS TERTIUS

Fibularis tertius is also called as peroneus tertius and is located in the foot.

Origin

Fibula, interosseous membrane.

Insertion

5th metatarsal bone.

Blood supply

Anterior tibial artery.

Nerve supply

Deep fibular nerve.

Action

It helps to move the foot upwards and outwards at the ankle joint.

Disease/Injury

Fibularis tertius may be injured suddenly by walking on uneven ground or in any other activity in which the foot gets turned with ankle.

Muscle Exercise

You can do stretching exercises. Sit down with legs straight in front of you. Then with a towel make a loop and place it under the foot, then pull tightly on the inner side of the towel so that ankle rotates inwards. Hold this stretched position for 30 seconds and repeat this 3 to 4 times.
