FLEXOR DIGITI MINIMI BREVIS

Flexor digiti minimi brevis is the muscle of foot situated on the bottom of 5th toe.

Origin

Fifth metatarsal bone.

Insertion

Phalanx of the 5th toe.

Blood supply

Lateral plantar artery, lateral tarsal arteries.

Nerve supply

Lateral plantar nerve.

Action

It helps to balance and adapt you to the ground when you walk or run. It contracts when you do any activity of foot and helps to balance the foot.

Disease/Injury

Overuse of this muscle while running or walking or using improper footwear may cause pain in this muscle at the bottom of foot in a few inches from the base of the little toe.

Wearing comfortable shoes of good quality is an excellent way of getting rid of pain in this muscle.
