FLEXOR HALLUCIS BREVIS

Flexor hallucis brevis is a muscle of the foot located at the inner side of the bottom of the foot.

Origin

Cuboid bone, lateral cuneiform bone.

Insertion

Proximal phalanx of great toe.

Blood supply

Medial plantar artery, first plantar metatarsal artery.

Nerve supply

Medial plantar nerve.

Action

It helps to bend the big toe.

Disease/Injury

Flexor hallucis brevis tendonitis may be caused due to overuse of the muscle.

Muscle Exercise

Exercise for those with heel pain: Before getting out of bed, stretch your foot by moving it up and down 10 times. Then while sitting on the bed, only move the ball with the arch of foot, then stand and do, and then wear your special supportive shoes and start walking. Never walk barefoot.
