FLEXOR POLLICIS LONGUS

The flexor pollicis longus is a muscle of the forearm.

Origin

This muscle originates from the radius and occasionally from the ulna bone.

Insertion

It inserts into the distal phalanges.

Blood supply

Anterior interosseous artery.

Nerve supply

Anterior interosseous nerve.

Action

It is most commonly used to flex and control the thumb and help flex the wrist when the thumb is in a flexed state.

Disease/Injury

Overuse of the muscle may lead to injuries.

Muscle Exercise

This muscle can be strengthened by practicing wrist flexion exercises.

Interesting Facts

You use this muscle daily to grip objects with the hand such as a steering wheel, a glass, or a pencil.
