The levatores costarum are muscles located deep in the thoracic cavity. These are 12 on each side.

C7 to T12 vertebrae.

Insertion

Ribs

Blood supply

Intercostal arteries.

Nerve supply

Intercostal nerves.

Action

The muscles help in bending, rotating, and extending the spinal column. They also elevate the ribs.
