OBLIQUE ARYTENOID

Oblique arytenoids are laryngeal muscles that form an ‘X’ shape.

Origin

Arytenoid cartilage.

Insertion

Into the opposing arytenoid cartilage.

Blood supply

Superior and inferior laryngeal arteries.

Nerve supply

Vagus nerve.

Action

It helps to close the opening of the larynx while swallowing or coughing.

Disease/Injury

Laryngeal fracture or injury can cause direct trauma to it and the muscle may get injured.
