OBLIQUUS CAPITIS INFERIOR

Obliquus capitis inferior lies on both the sides of the neck.

Origin

It arises from the 2nd cervical vertebra (axis).

Insertion

Into the 1st cervical vertebra (atlas).

Blood supply

Vertebral artery, occipital artery.

Nerve supply

Suboccipital nerve.

Action

It helps to rotate the head and the neck joint.

Disease/Injury

Overuse and incorrect posture can cause pain and discomfort in head and neck region.

Muscle Exercise

Suboccipital stretch helps to strengthen this muscle. Bend the neck backwards for about 5 seconds and then release. Repeat it several times a day.
