Obturator externus muscle is a flat triangular muscle located in front of pelvis.

Origin

Ischiopubic ramus, obturator membrane.

Insertion

Femur – greater trochanter.

Blood supply

Obturator artery.

Nerve supply

Obturator nerve.

Action

The obturator externus helps to rotate the thigh away from the body.

Disease/Injury

Overstretching and overuse of the obturator externus muscle can cause injury and swelling.

Muscle Exercise

Practice body weight strength exercises to stabilize the lower body and hip joint.
