PROCERUS

Procerus is a small muscle located on the top of the nose.

Origin

Nasal bone and the lateral nasal cartilage.

Insertion

Into the skin of the lower part of the forehead.

Blood supply

Ophthalmic artery.

Nerve supply

Facial nerve.

Action

It helps to pull down the skin between the eyebrows and helps in flaring the nostrils. It also helps in expression of anger.

Continuous contraction of the procerus produces horizontal wrinkles at the root of the nose.
