PRONATOR QUADRATUS

Pronator quadratus is a muscle of the forearm. As the name suggests, its primary function is pronation. The muscle has a square shape, which is quite unusual.

Anterior interosseous artery.

Nerve supply

Anterior interosseous nerve.

Action

It acts to pronate the forearm. Pronation means turning the forearm so that it faces palm-down. Certain sports including swimming require major use of the pronator quadratus.

Disease/Injury

Pronator quadratus tendonitis may occur as a result of activities involving excessive use of the muscle.

Muscle Exercise

Pronation exercises at the wrist joint using machine or dumbbells help to strengthen the pronator quadratus muscle.
