PYRAMIDALIS

The pyramidalis is a tiny muscle located in the rectus sheath. It is triangular in shape.

Origin

Symphysis pubic, pubic crest.

Insertion

Linea alba.

Blood supply

Superficial epigastric artery, inferior epigastric artery.

Nerve supply

Subcostal nerve.

Action

Pyramidalis helps to contract the linea alba.

Disease/Injury

‘Groin disruption injury’ can produce long-standing pain in pyramidalis.

Muscle Exercise

You can strengthen the pyramidalis muscle by performing exercises that work on your abs.

Interesting Facts

One out of every 5 humans has a missing pyramidalis.
